The issue with www.eia.doe.gov

When I recently was trying to find some information related to alternative fuels, Google listed eia.doe.gov among a host of helpful links. However when I tried to access the site of the US Energy Information Agency, it failed to load. No matter which browser I had tried (Firefox 13 and Chrome 19 both on a Fedora 17 64bit Linux), the site failed to load, returning a "server not found" error. Interestingly, the Lynx text-mode browser sometimes seems to redirect me to www.gov.com, a site that I understand has no relation whatsoever to the US government. This will need some investigation.
[Update]
Fortunately, I was able to solve the problem. It seems to have been caused by my ISP's DNS server not resolving the address.  This does not explain why entering the site's IP in the browser failed as well; however, changing the DNS server to Google's 8.8.8.8 has now allowed my to visit the EIA's site.
